" ... Dad, ... Dad " - Fill in the Blanks
PaP - Not P Action P . But Father..Dad
Since we were talking about (PaP - papa ) for the last post, i suddenly thought of a very interesting topic. Father. Dad. It was "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" but in JJ's column here, it's...
"Asian Dad, American Dad"
When it comes to such issue, I believe most of you experienced almost or exactly the same as me. Let me first start on Asian Dad...
Mother are always the one you would run to for cover, for shelter, for warmth, for a hug, for a pat on the head.
Father? Always the one with frowned eye-brows hanging on their faces 24 seven a week. And you rarely see them having a smile hanged on the face.
Now, American Dad...
In those movies, you will often find that their dad always spend time listening to their children's problem. You will find that their dads will stretch out their wide arms and give their children the big hug. I have an American friend who lives in N. California and she confirms my perception. To them, a hug is nothing more but a sign of kin-ship.
Back to why I'm writing on this...
I was in Bishan library, Children's Section. Look, get this straight, I'm not a pedophile. It's just that I need somewhere with a chair that I can sit and revise for exam. I'm sorry, I digress.
Back to topic, I was in the children's section. Then I saw 2 different families. I apologise first, for eavesdropping on their conversation.
1st family:
Dad: This is a bird, this bird is called parrot. What is this bird called?
Girl: Parrot
Dad: Smart girl. (Gives her a pat on the head)
2nd family:
Dad: You want this book? Ducky find mummy?
Girl: I want bunny.
Dad: Okay, daddy go look for it.
I'm sure you guys will compare this 2 daddy. Let me tell you, don't.
They are nice daddy who's willing to spend time bringing their kids to the Library instead of watching soccer, reading newspaper and watching stocks.
New age daddy are nice, and they are trying their best. Asian Dad are slowly transforming into Americanised Dad.
I'm not referring that the olden days dad are not nice, but in the past, Asian Dad thinks that they should work work work and work. They have very strong pride, ego and principle. Asian Dad wants to provide the best for their kids, however, they overlooked that, besides being the financial pillar in the family, they missed out the growing process of their fruit of labour.
Can I refer this as a gardener and the rich man? The rich man hired a gardener to beautify the garden. The rich man, obviously rich, gives his gardener a sum of money to buy seeds and take care of the garden. The gardener took good care of the flowers and it bloomed. No one is to blame here. The rich man has a mindset that the gardener is supposedly to take care of the flowers. Both the rich man and gardener did nothing wrong. However, the rich man didn't get to enjoy the growing process of the seed, to a blooming flower. The gardener did.
What I'm trying to say here is, in the olden days, Asian Dad's thinks that money is everything. However, they missed out on the growing process of their child. I assume the change in the new age dad is because they feel that their life lacked of a dad. Thus, they try to be a part of their child's life nowadays. I hope to be one of the new age dad, at least I left my footstep in the life of my fruit of labour. haha..
Be it new age dad, or the olden age dad. They did their best to raise you, and they always have their best interest for you. Even though some couldn't be there for you, in their heart, you are always the flower that's blooming =]
Slam me. or agree with me. Enlightenment me.
feel free to drop me some comments =] Lovely.
